Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
